Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) is one of Ghana’s largest and most important teaching hospitals located in Bantama, Kumasi, within the Ashanti Region. Established in 1954 and later upgraded into a teaching hospital in 1975, KATH serves as a major referral center for the middle and northern sectors of Ghana.
The hospital provides specialist healthcare services including emergency medicine, surgery, maternity and child health, oncology, diagnostics, intensive care, physiotherapy, ophthalmology, ENT services, family medicine, and internal medicine. KATH is also a major training institution for medical students, nurses, specialists, and healthcare professionals through its affiliation with KNUST.
Known by many locals as “Gee,” the hospital has played a central role in healthcare delivery in Ghana for decades. The facility includes the National Accident and Emergency Centre, specialized clinics, laboratories, maternity services, and several clinical and non-clinical directorates.
KATH continues to undergo modernization and expansion projects including the Heal Komfo Anokye initiative aimed at improving infrastructure, patient care, and specialist healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region and beyond.
