A commercial shop was destroyed by fire on Sunday evening at Asokwa in Kumasi, close to the Unity Oil Filling Station, causing significant property damage but no reported injuries.

The fire, which affected Eddy Kay Collection Shop, drew the attention of residents and business owners in the area as thick smoke and flames engulfed the structure. Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service responded swiftly after receiving reports of the incident and worked to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings.

Although the shop and its contents were completely destroyed, emergency responders were able to contain the fire before it affected adjoining businesses and residential properties. Their intervention helped avert what could have become a much larger disaster in the busy commercial area.

Eyewitnesses at the scene described moments of concern as firefighters battled the flames under difficult weather conditions. Despite the challenges, the fire was brought under control within a short period, preventing further destruction.

Officials from the Asokwa Municipal Assembly, including Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Kamel Amo, were present at the scene to assess the situation and support emergency response efforts.

No casualties or injuries were recorded, according to authorities. The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and investigations are ongoing.

The incident serves as another reminder for businesses and households to regularly inspect electrical installations and exercise caution when using electrical appliances, particularly during the rainy season when electrical faults can increase the risk of fire outbreaks.
